In 1991 she was going to participate in Father of the Bride, but became pregnant and could not act in the movie. Bebe Daniels died of a stroke in London. In 1989 she married actor Kevin Kline. The pair starred in the radio sitcom "Life With The Lyons" (1951 to 1961), which later made the transition to television. She was famous in the early and middle 1980s for her acting in a handful of teen-orientated movies, and her face made the covers of teen magazines such as Tiger Beat, 16, Teen Beat and others. Most notably, they starred in the series "Hi Gang" which continued for decades, enjoying considerable popularity during World War II. She is also the god-daughter of actress Joan Crawford. The couple did radio shows for the BBC.

She is a native of New York City, where she attended the Children's professional Acting School. With her husband Ben Lyon she moved to London in 1936. She is the daughter of director Joseph Cates and the niece of Gilbert Cates, also a director. She retired from Hollywood in 1935. Phoebe Belle Katz Cates (born July 16, 1963) is an American film actress who, by her description, has retired from acting to become a full-time mother. Her later notable Hollywood films included "42nd Street". The Anniversary Party (2001). Paramont dropped her contract with the advent of talking pictures, but Daniels made a hit in the 1929 soundie "Rio Rita", in which she sang as well.
