She later won critical acclaim for her portrayal of Patsy Ramsey. The cause of death was "acute cardiac dysfunction, nontraumatic systemic and spontaneous intraventricular hemorrhage and hemorrhage in the brain", as well as an enlarged heart. Helgenberger won an Emmy for the role (Supporting Actress). She was 54. Her first famous television role was on the period drama China Beach. She died, unexpectedly, in Los Angeles, California.
