Kathryn Erbe

Erbe is married to American actor Terry Kinney and they have two children, daughter Maeve, born in 1996 and son Carson, born in 2003. She is a spokeswoman of the American Diabetes Association, travelling around the United States to raise awareness about the disease. She also had a memorable guest appearance on Homicide: Life on the Street in 1997. Della Reese announced, at the Larry King show in 2002, that she suffers from Type-2 Diabetes. Erbe also portrayed the infamous 'Shirley Bellinger' on the HBO series "Oz" to wide critical acclaim. She has had a number of other acting jobs since that series began. Erbe has starred in many films including: What About Bob?, Stir of Echoes and the independent films Dream with the Fishes, Love from Ground Zero and Entropy. Her participation in this series has given her popularity among the younger audiences as well.

Erbe has also performed in many world premier productions by playwrights such as Tom Donaghy and Alex Gersten. In 1994, she began participating in the television hit Touched by an Angel, where she plays Tess. Erbe earned a Tony Award nomination in 1991 for her portrayal of Mary in Speed of Darkness by Steve Tesich. In 1989, she starred alongside Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall and Robin Givens in the Harlem Nights movie, playing Vera. Following the series, she became a member the Steppenwolf Theater Company and has starred in many of their productions, including A Streetcar Named Desire, Curse of the Starving Class, My Thing of Love, and The Grapes of Wrath, which had a six-month long run and won the 1990 Tony Award for Best Play. Reese did voice overs from 1988 to 1991 in the A Pup Named Scooby Doo television cartoon. Erbe was cast as Lynn Redgrave's daughter on the television sitcom Chicken Soup as an undergraduate student at New York University. In 1979, she played Ms. Lydia Branch in the critically acclaimed series Roots: The Next Generations.
