Eve 6

Eve 6 was a punk band from Southern California, whose first album was released in 1998 and which disbanded in 2004. The band formed in 1995 in La Crescenta, California as Eleventeen; the name Eve 6 was only adopted later, after they already had a recording contract and were looking for a replacement drummer. Tony Fagenson, who auditioned while attending the University of Southern California, was an X-Files fan. After seeing the episode "Eve", which featured genetically engineered characters known as "Eves," he got the name from the character called Eve #6 who made a remark about biting a guard's eyeball (http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~gjm5xx/transcrp/scrp110.htm), which Fagenson thought merited "Eve 6" as a band name.

Band Members

  • Max Collins – vocals, bass
  • Jon Siebels – guitar, vocals
  • Tony Fagenson – drums, vocals

Style

Eve 6's musical style was relatively limited, with the notable exception of their innovative final album, It's All in Your Head, which featured a wide range of songs. The group was perhaps best known for its lyrics, which feature vivid imagery and inventive wordplay: two of the group's hits, "Inside Out" (from their self-titled album) and "Promise" (from Horrorscope), are good examples of this style. Romance and angst are common themes.

Example Lyrics

Or am I origami
folded up and just pretend
demented as the motives in your head
-Inside Out (Eve 6)
Waiting for the month
of Come-What-May
I smelled you on my shirt today
-Amphetamines (Horrorscope)
There is no floor thirteen
there's not even a second story
you've got one to tell, and it's sad as hell
-Good Lives (It's All in Your Head)

In 1967 Anni-Frid won a TV talent contest, and made an album for EMI. Tony Fagenson, who auditioned while attending the University of Southern California, was an X-Files fan. Anni-Frid got her first job as a jazz singer at the age of 13, then formed her own band, the Anni-Frid Four, marrying the bass player Ragnar Fredriksson at age 18, with whom she had two children before divorcing. The band formed in 1995 in La Crescenta, California as Eleventeen; the name Eve 6 was only adopted later, after they already had a recording contract and were looking for a replacement drummer. Synni died before Anni-Frid was two, so she was brought up by her grandmother in Eskilstuna, Sweden.

After a German magazine published the story of her origins in 1977, Anni-Frid discovered that her father had not died. Lyrics (http://www.stlyrics.com/songs/e/eve61427.html). Anni-Frid was born illegitimately in Ballangen, near Narvik, Norway as a result of a liaison between Synni - her mother - and a married German sergeant, Alfred Haase, during the German military occupation. Anni-Frid believed that her father had died when his ship to Germany was sunk during the war.
